Measure the legroom
Under-desk pedestals take knee space, and on a narrower desk they push the user off-centre. Measure before committing across a floor. A mobile pedestal that lives beside the desk is often more comfortable and doubles as a spare seat surface.
Hybrid working changes this
If people hot-desk, personal pedestals stop making sense: nobody owns the desk, so nobody owns the drawer. Lockers do that job properly and cost less across a team.
Mobile or fixed
Mobile pedestals can be pulled out as an extra surface, moved when the layout changes and shared between hot desks. Fixed pedestals sit flush and look tidier in a formal office.
If the top is at desk height, a mobile unit doubles as a side surface for a printer or a bag, which is worth more day to day than the extra drawer.
