Desks with storage
A desk with built-in storage removes the need for a separate pedestal, which matters more in a small office than most people expect.
Check the legroom
Integrated storage takes space from somewhere, usually under the desk. Measure the clear knee space before committing, especially for taller users, and especially if the desk is shared.
If legroom is tight, a mobile pedestal that lives beside the desk rather than under it is often the better answer.
Where they shine
Smaller offices, home offices and any room where a separate storage run would block a walkway. They also keep a floor plan looking tidier, since there is nothing to shuffle out of alignment.
What can be stored
Integrated storage suits stationery, personal items and a small amount of paperwork. It is rarely deep enough for suspension files, so if you still hold physical records, plan a separate filing cabinet rather than assuming the desk will absorb them.
Check whether the storage is on a fixed side. On a fixed unit the desk has a handing, and getting it wrong means the drawers open into the walkway.
