Deep seating belongs in reception
Low, deep seating is comfortable for waiting and close to useless for a laptop. If people will work there, choose something at normal chair height with a firmer base. This single decision explains most unused breakout areas.
Fabric and wear
Reception seating is on show and takes coats, bags and visitors. Check the rub count, pick a mid-tone, and prefer a removable or wipeable cover in anywhere that also serves coffee.
Scale to the room
A three-seat sofa in a small reception dominates it and usually seats two people, because nobody sits in the middle. Two armchairs at an angle seat the same number, feel more welcoming and are far easier to rearrange.
Measure the doorways as well as the room. A sofa that will not turn a corner is a slow and expensive lesson.
