Base before top
The base decides whether the table wobbles and whether people can get their legs under it. A weighted disc or cross base beats four legs in a café setting, because there is nothing to kick and chairs can pull in from any side.
Round or square
Round tables seat an awkward number more gracefully and are easier to walk past. Square tables push together into longer runs when you need to seat a group. Most staff kitchens want a few of each.
