The least glamorous category here and the one that decides whether an office stays tidy, whether desks can be moved, and whether the floor can be cleaned properly.
Plan it with the desks
Where power can reach decides where a desk can physically sit, so cabling belongs in the floor plan rather than after it. Retro-fitting means working under furniture that is already occupied, which takes far longer than doing it at install.
What to use where
- Spines and trays for permanent runs, particularly bench desking.
- Grommets where cables pass through a desktop, which stops the edge chewing them.
- Power modules in meeting tables, specified at the start rather than drilled in later.
- Extra slack on height-adjustable desks, or the desk unplugs itself the first time it rises.
