Executive chairs
Executive chairs are partly about comfort and partly about how a room reads. Both are legitimate reasons to buy one, as long as you know which you are paying for.
High backs and what they actually do
A high back supports the shoulders and head when reclining, which suits long calls and reading. It does very little for someone typing upright, and in a small office it can make a desk feel enclosed.
If the chair is mostly for working rather than meeting, a good task chair is often the better seat.
Choosing the material
- Leather executive chairs look the part and wipe clean, but warm up over a long day.
- Fabric executive chairs are softer and quieter, and hide wear better.
- Mesh executive chairs keep the presence of a high back without the heat.
